Competency Improvement

Peritius' foundation is providing highly skilled, independent project management professionals who can meet our clients' highest expectations. Our grasp of IT, business and project management means that our professionals can be mobilized to manage the most difficult situations with a high confidence level that they will succeed. Once a project is complete, Peritius leaves behind knowledgeable teams, effective processes and a proven demonstration of success.

Our Competency Improvement services include:

Program Management Office

Peritius has developed program management offices (PMOs) to help our clients standardize their process, tools and methods used within an organization to help deliver initiatives successfully.

To properly support our client serving professionals, Peritius provides our team with a complete process toolkit focused on the management of projects. While project management tools are ubiquitous--every consulting firm has one form or another--it takes a highly skilled specialist to know when and where to put them to use. Peritius offers this toolkit to our clients at no additional cost when they bring Peritius on board.

Institutionalizing the Project Management Process

Peritius partners with our clients to help institutionalize these processes. Most organizations create the proper project management process and implement it by communicating and training on the new methodology and process. Yet, PMOs have a poor track record of acceptance in today's business environment. Developing the proper infrastructure for a program management office is simple for most organizations, but Peritius understands that creating the right process requires a change of corporate culture. We work with our clients to create a practical approach to the process and methodology that can easily be adapted to the culture of the organization.

Peritius provides professionals that are highly skilled and are capable of stepping into the most challenging circumstances. When a seasoned client project manager departs, our delivery executives are able to step in, pick up the pieces and drive the project to completion. When we are done, we leave behind much more than a successfully completed project. In addition to a sense of accomplishment and project artifacts, Peritius strategy delivery executives leave behind a project team that has been shown how to achieve success through the application of sound project management principles.

Additionally, we use the process while managing an initiative and then work with our clients to help institutionalize the process. While many processes add value to an organization, it often becomes difficult to sell that success to skeptical business partners. Peritius has worked with our clients to help "sell" the benefits by focusing on baseline metrics and showing the improvements that can be made with the new process.

Mentoring/Coaching

Peritius has found that traditional classroom training is not always effective in improving project managers' skill sets. Our experience has shown that many project managers have a difficult time translating project management concepts and using them on their actual projects. We believe that part of the problem is that classroom training does not properly address the soft skills required to successfully manage projects in a corporate environment. The development of soft skills (for example, communication, negotiation and motivation skills) is crucial for project managers.

As a result, Peritius provides hands-on mentoring and coaching services to organizations that want to improve their own project managers' skills. Peritius coaches our clients' project and program managers while helping to guide the other project team members and project sponsor toward improving their skills in their defined roles and responsibilities.

To ensure that our clients are seeing improvements, Peritius has developed a process similar to our Focus IT program to be able to measure the effectiveness of project managers, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and develop a plan of action to improve their effectiveness.

The objectives of mentoring your project managers are:

  • Continuous improvement of delivery to the business

  • Quicker adoption and acclimation to a consistent project management process defined in the organization

  • A greater understanding of strengths and weaknesses, allowing project managers to improve their use of resources and to identify better training requirements

"Peritius provided the framework for coordinating the multiple project threads to completely rebuild Tenneco's IT infrastructure in 16 months. This included building the global operations center, developing the team and the processes to operate a data center, help desk and Network Operations center for a $6 billion conglomerate. The project was very successful and Laura Werner's organization was instrumental in that success."
